Uli Gsell ist ein Zauberer. Als "Zauberstab" benutzt er einen Presslufthammer, eine Flex, ein Kernbohrgerät, ein Fräse und/oder einen Schleifstein und verwandelt Steine zu Seherlebnissen, die zwischen abstraktem Augenkitzel und figurativen Erinnerungen changieren. Viele Skulpturen erinnern mit ihren Treppen, Eingängen, Ausgängen, Sackgassen, Kammern und Durchblicken an archaische Behausungen oder mutig erbaute Türme.
Momentan (April 2026) zeigt Uli Gsell erstmals seine im Februar 2026 in Mexiko entstandenen Zeichnungen auf Papier, die sein Interesse an der Bildsprache der Azteken widerspiegeln. In eine ganz andere Richtung marschiert sein Loriot-Mops aus Bronze. Die lebensgroße weibliche Version ist am Stuttgarter Eugensplatz zu besichtigen.
